Everybody uses email. It is believed that email has three times the user accounts as Facebook and Twitter combined. In terms of numbers, email reaches 2.9 billion people around the world.
The following 9 tips can help you transform your email campaign into one that is beneficial to your organization.
1. Be mindful of your audience
You need to have a good contact (or client) database in place that is properly segmented. This is because no email will be relevant to each of your contacts. By setting up for this, you can tailor your audience and avoid sending non-relevant messages to your contacts.
2. Understand what you want to get out of your emails
Before sending that first email, you need to understand the ultimate goal of the campaign. Moreover, you need to make sure your goal is specific and that you can measure the outcome.
3. Ensure your email is informative
When developing your email campaign, you should ask yourself “What’s in it for me?”. In reality, you’re asking “What will my contacts gain from this email?”. The answers to this should be evident before sending the email.
4. Include a call-to-action
Since your email campaign has a goal (presumably to sell a good or service) your email should be persuasive. Including a call-to-action at the end that includes pertinent information about what you’re offering.
5. Have a compelling subject line
Don’t overlook the power of the subject line. This is the first thing a person will see of your email and chances are if your subject line is not compelling, it will never be opened. Effective subject lines offer something of value to your customer and should invoke their curiosity or illustrate your senses of urgency or excitement.
6. Don’t be spam-y
You should take care to avoid words that will be picked up by spam filters.
7. Include social media share buttons
Since a large portion of the population uses social media, you should give your contacts the ability to share your information on their social media sites. This could be a valuable opportunity for new business.
8. Make sure your email is eye-catching
Be mindful of how your email looks. Having a well-formatted, eye-catching email will be perceived better than one is sloppily put together. This can involve using bullet points, thoughtfully incorporating images, and employing short line paragraphs. Like having a boring subject line, if your email looks boring, your contact will likely gloss over it and delete.
9. Be mobile-friendly
Everybody today seems to use their smartphones and tablets to view their email. For this reason, you should make sure you email looks the same when displayed this way. Mobile-friendly email tips include using a single column template, having one call-to-action, using larger text and being as succinct as possible, both in the body of the email and in the subject line.
